Seasonal Sales Patterns for Pizza Franchises

Thursday, January 25, 2018

One of the biggest benefits of pizza is that people crave it all year long. You might know there are certain low seasons in pizza sales. However, we certainly experience high sale seasonal patterns in the pizza franchise world.

In some stores, business is driven by tourist seasons, which is why marketing to locals and tourists is a key strategy to continue driving sales even when tourists are gone. In 2017, chain stores are expected to reach over 25 billion in total sales, while independent pizzerias can expect over 18 billion in total sales. That’s an exponential growth of 7.39% as compared to 2015.

Even when the weather is against most food franchises, pizza rises. When a blizzard hit New York in 2015, pizza deliveries increased by 135%. For many pizza franchisees, winter months and bad weather days mean high sales.

However, the busiest days for pizza sales may surprise many franchisees. While football season is considered pizza season, a new seasonal sales pattern is emerging. These are the busiest pizza sales days of the year:

#1 Halloween Believe it or not, Halloween has dethroned the Super Bowl as the busiest day for pizza orders. Consumers opt for a warm, easy, crowd-pleasing food to offer on Halloween night.

#2 Thanksgiving Eve Right after Halloween, Thanksgiving Eve seems to be another peak holiday for pizza sales. This peak is mostly because most ovens are filled with pies and turkeys, so ordering a pizza can be an easy, fast solution for dinner.

#3 Super Bowl Sunday The ultimate peak for pizza sales. During Super Bowl Sunday, 67% more pizza is consumed, paired with 327% more wing orders, too.

#4 New Year’s Eve While people get ready for their New Year’s celebrations, odds are their kitchen is packed with other foods, and no one wants to cook anything else. This is probably why pizza sales skyrocket.

#5 New Year’s Day After a day of cooking and preparations, pizza seems like the perfect option for a relaxed, easy, fast meal, which is why many consumers turn to pizza for their New Year’s Day meals.

Pizza season is all year long at Hungry Howie’s®. We plan ahead and target to our local community, as well as our season visitors, which means we have thriving business all year long.
